Every movie or television series is made in such a way so that its audience can relate to it. Same is the case with teen movies and television series only their audience is such that they are at a more vulnerable and impressionable age. Therefore there is a need of choosing an appropriate age and developing ratings for children.
It is imperative for us to realize the phenomenon of ratings and why they are actually put into place. Well there are several reasons for this. As most of the movie and television series now comprise of drug abuse, hard language, explicit sexuality, strong graphic nudity and strong Dialog. Coupled by the fact that you have a young audience it makes you have second thoughts if that is good for their future, especially due to the influential nature of movies and the fact that most stars nowadays are role models for children. Pretty much the reason why WWE has special advertisements advising children by saying, “Don’t try this at home.”
Often we see Parents accompanying their children while watching television. This has to vary from age to age. If children are of the age 13 – 14, then that supervision is quite necessary. Teens at this age need to realize that, and as the adage goes, there is a right time for everything.
Their time will come when they will be able to watch adult movies. Similarly when dealing with 15 – 16 year olds depending on their maturity levels you can tell them what and what not they can watch. It is important that when dealing with teens you have a more interactive way of working and you can convince them with what you are doing instead of just imposing your rules upon them. You can explain try explaining it to them why you are doing this. You can even give them the pin code and at the same time be monitoring what they are viewing.
Since it varies from culture to culture and from place to place, you want to mediate your control over your children. If you’re living in a metropolitan you don’t want them to alien to the happenings of the world, even if it may be related to entertainment.
Basically it is all about having one. On some weekends you can let them watch only R movies and TV-MA shows and series and other adult programs and adult entertainment. If your teen is 13-14 let them watch TV-14 and PG-13 the adult movies and entertainment will come in High School. At times you can give them company while watching some adult movies to give them a sense of your support and everyone can join in and have some fun which is our main purpose.
