Karachi: The Deli, one of the city’s best kept secrets, recently hosted a Hi Tea with Fortune. A unique and novel event, this hi-tea was the first of its kind to be held in Karachi.
“The Tea with Fortune is yet another initiative of The Deli to showcase its creativity and innovation not just in terms of the food we serve but also in terms of our presentation, ideas and concepts,” said Tina Mehdi, the CEO of The Deli. “While The Deli has always been at the cutting-edge of coming up with new food ideas, now we are also at the cutting-edge of unique ways to market food.”
The Deli’s Hi-Tea menu was extensive and scrumptious including delicacies such as lemon curd tartlets with strawberry toppings, mini chocolate Lindt brownies with the taste of true Lindt chocolate and of course no English tea would be complete without scones: The Deli’s scones were crumbly and scrumptious and served with clotted cream and butter.
“A lot of effort went into planning this menu,” said Mehdi, the soft-spoken owner of The Deli, who is extremely popular with all her patrons due to the personal attention she gives to every customer. “We wanted a perfect mixture of oriental and English recipes to lay down a truly unique tea menu.”
The main oriental dish on the menu was a massive hit with guests: the steamed rice wrapper rolls served with a tangy and spicy dipping sauce. These rolls were light, delicately seasoned and truly a delight to eat.
“I absolutely loved these little rolls,” said Riffat Kazmi, 30, who had purchased a ticket to the Hi Tea with Fortune event. “They were so delicately seasoned and so light that I packed away quite a few.”
“My favorite was the pasta salad,” said Kanwal Raza, 22, who said it was her first time attending such an event. “It was well flavored and presented beautifully and was probably the best salad I have ever had.”
Another hot favorite were the Lindt chocolate brownies which disappeared pretty quickly considering that the gathering was all-women.
“These brownies are a huge hit always,” said Tina Mehdi, smiling at a girl who piled three brownies onto her plate. “There are so many recipes out there for brownies but this one is always a killer.”
The fortune part in the event was provided by a well-known Tarot card reader who sat at a table in the corner of the room, reading out cards and telling women their futures.
