Even on the red carpet, it’s clear that the BAFTA Awards 2023 is a royally good time for all those in attendance. And this year, even more so: On Sunday, Prince William and Princess Kate made their triumphant return to the ceremony for the first time since 2020. While the royal couple hasn’t been to the actual awards show in a few years, they’ve continued to work with the organization in various ways. Just last month, Kate visited the BAFTA headquarters, where she launched a short film for her new early year’s campaign, Shaping Us.
In addition to Prince William and Princess Kate taking in the awards show that celebrates the best in British film and television, BAFTA Award winner Helen Mirren will also honor the late Queen Elizabeth with a special tribute. “The Queen occupies a unique place in BAFTA’s history, a close association that spanned 50 years. Through her various patronages, the Queen was renowned for her support of the UK’s creative industries,” the awards organization wrote in a statement.
The late monarch, who died at age 96, occupied “a unique place in the Academy’s history and will be missed enormously,” according to a statement released by the organization following her death last September. “[She] will be missed enormously. Our thoughts are with our President, HRH The Duke of Cambridge, and the Royal Family, to whom we offer our deepest sympathy.”
Royalty was certainly the theme at London’s Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, where several actors looked regal as they graced the red carpet, opting for a variety of looks. Below, is our list of the best-dressed stars at the 2023 BAFTA Awards.
